The Scholars’ Lab Makerspace Critical Making Fellow is a year-long, paid graduate fellowship that supports a student in developing a unique physical scholarly project connected to their graduate research through hands-on making. The Fellow works approximately 10 hours per week, including regular shifts in the Makerspace, collaborates with staff and peers, and uses Makerspace tools and other UVA fabrication labs as appropriate. In addition to designing and completing the project over the academic year, the Fellow receives project materials funding, documents their process through regular blog or social media posts, teaches two Makerspace workshops, participates in the digital humanities graduate community, and publicly presents the completed work at a Scholars’ Lab event at the end of the spring semester.
